The leading material handling equipment supplier’s recent expansion updates its original 1,000-sqft beam fabrication department to a newly designed 15,000-sqft unit. The larger department enables faster beam fabrication, greatly reducing customer lead times for used custom pallet rack beams. It will also help speed up order completion, resulting in faster turnaround.
Company founder and President Bill DiMaio Jr. said the expansion was inspired by the need to increase warehouse space for custom beam fabrication.
“It has been a goal to update our outdated beam fabrication department over the past five years. Thanks to an expanded area, we are now able to work on three times as many orders than before. We are hopeful our latest expansion will help to shrink lead times on orders and get people buying used equipment over new. No one wants to wait for factory lead times of around eight weeks for beams when we can have them completed in days,” he said.
American Surplus has also hired two new certified welders who will work alongside the sole welder, who has been with the company for years. With three certified welders, the company will now be able to prep, cut, weld and process pallet rack beams at a fraction of the time it took previously.

We are in a major scale-up spree now, and we are upgrading all the major areas that can help us to deliver quicker. We are positive the new hires will help to take the load off the lone welder from the old department, facilitate faster turnaround times and improve customer satisfaction. Also, we are hopeful our recent upgrades will now enable us to cater to more customers than ever before,” DiMaio said.
