IRVINE, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES – Junyan once again stands on the UltSpace stage and delivers the safety reminders to the public. His hardworking has been receiving positive feedback from society and also has been recognized by the City Mayor of Irvine, Farrah N. Khan, and City Mayor of Fullerton, Fred Jung. Under the witness of the City Mayor of Irvine and City Mayor of Fullerton, Junyan was delegated as Safety Ambassador of the Unites States Overseas Student Union.

As we all know, one of the biggest and most important concerns for students preparing to start college in the United States is the issue of safety. This is especially true of international students, who may not be familiar with the culture and safety issues of the country in which they are planning to study.

In the past few years, we have seen a sharp increase in instances of hostility and harassment directed at Chinese and other Asian communities related to COVID-19 stigma and misinformation. In addition, based on the experiment done by Act To Change, ADMERASIA, and NextShark, 70% of Asian American respondents experienced or witnessed an increase in cyberbullying in 2020. Beyond schools and online, people are reporting experiencing bullying in public spaces such as malls, grocery stores, outdoors, and airports which makes bullying pervasive across many areas.

As a college student at the University of California, Irvine, Junyan is highly concerned about international students’ safety issues in the United States. According to Junyan, documents & property security issues, residential & social safety issues, travel safety issues, health issues, and legal issues are the main safety issues that international students may face.

After seeing some news about International Students getting the short end of the stick from the safety issues, Junyan made up his mind to be a safety ambassador by spreading out the safety reminders to people around him.

Here is Junyan’s advice for people who are planning to come to the US. or are already in the US., “Always learn some basic legal knowledge in advance, which will bring great help to your life in the United States and avoid many mistakes! Here is an important reminder that the Unites States stipulates that people can only buy alcohol, drink, and smoke at the age of 21! It’s different from the 18-year-old in China! The most crucial thing is to avoid drinking and driving!”

Here is what Yuzhou Wu, the founder and president of the United States Overseas Student Union, comments about Junyan, “As a safety ambassador, Junyan always leads by example. During Junyan’s spare time, he will always participate in the public activities of the International Students Associations, and generously spread out the safety reminders and pass on positive energy.”

Under his continuous effort, we believe more and more International Students will improve their safety awareness, reassuring parents who are far away in the other countries.
