Emergency Medicine Core Training (EMCT) Offers Leading Continuing Education Program to Bolster Emergency Medicine in Rural America

St. Cloud, MN – Emergency Medicine Core Training (EMCT), an educational program designed to help providers improve their practice of emergency medicine, has spearheaded a must-have learning and continuing education tool for physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. EMCT’s tools are being used to improve emergency medical care in rural America, and the program’s robust supplemental online emergency medical training is actively meeting the goals outlined in the first pillar of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Rural Emergency Care Task Force’s plan for enhanced patient care and safety. The five pillars recommended by the Rural Care Task Force (RCTF) are designed to improve patient safety and provider confidence across America.

The first pillar of the RCTF’s recommendations, “Foundational Training,” recognizes the importance of providing a broad experience that covers the entire breadth of emergency medicine. EMCT is has pioneered a pedagogical 14-module online program that provides this comprehensive exposure that non-emergency medicine trained physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners need to practice safely and confidently in the emergency department. This multifaceted/multimedia program engages learners of all types and allows a seamless flow from one section to another, so learners can skim through areas they know well and spend extra time in sections they are less familiar with. The unique scenario-based learning of the, “Work-up, Diagnosis, and Management” section brings subscribers to the bedside of hundreds of patient encounters, often with actual video of the encounter, in order to enhance the learning process. “Pop-up cards” assist users along the way as they learn an evidence-based approach to caring for the broad range of patients that seek treatment in the emergency room.

“We are excited to have released this robust Emergency Medicine training program,” remarked Stephen Jameson, MD, FACEP, founder and lead editor of Emergency Medicine Core Training. “Each day we are working to standardize and enhance the education for non-emergency medicine trained physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners so as to improve patient safety and provider confidence. By bending the learning curve for those starting to work in ERs and those looking to broaden their knowledge and skills, we improve patient care, decrease provider stress, and shorten onboarding time, which can decrease the overall cost of care.”

EMCT has been selected by healthcare organizations as the premier onboarding foundational training tool and has been included in the Rural Emergency Care Task Force Summary for providing critical foundational knowledge to clinicians practicing emergency medicine nationwide.
