The acclaimed author takes readers into the world of horse racing with a tale that wrestles with themes of faith and abandonment in her book, “Acid and Bribery.”

Author Jeanne Ann Off brings a complete storyline filled with suspense, love of horses, friendship, and a little romance in her sought-after debut novel “Acid and Bribery.”

The story revolves around Kelsey Kelley, who was deserted by her father when she was 11. Kelsey’s mother had no job skills and couldn’t pay the rent.

Kelsey, however, finds some fulfillment after some time by helping her mother in cleaning horse stalls at Blue Ribbon Downs.

“Acid and Bribery” builds up an ingenious plot and makes the story more suspenseful when Tomar El Oro, the stakes-winning three-year-old American Quarter Horse stallion favored to win the race, unexpectedly lost miserably.

Kelsey then finds out that the screen of her favorite horse is torn. When Tomar becomes sick afterward, so do the other horses in the stables.

Having overheard a conversation that suggested bribery, Kelsey wondered if her best friend’s father, Eustacio Rios, was bribed to lose.

While Kelsey searched for clues, her father, who had deserted his family, arrived wanting to make amends, much to Kelsey’s disgust.

Kelsey learned to accept both disappointment and success as she was caught by the intrigue and personal danger while dealing with her father’s sudden new involvement in her life.

Jeanne’s debut novel has been well received by book reviewers from various book review publications.

BlueInk Review commended Jeanne’s horseracing expertise, which provided exciting plot twists and atmosphere.

“The mystery in Acid and Bribery is secondary to the emotional conflicts: Can Kelsey forgive her father? Can she fall in love without being haunted by doubts caused by her parents’ failed marriage? It is this more personal story that may appeal to certain readers, particularly teen girls coping with divorce in their families,” BlueInk Review wrote in a review.

Jeanne Ann Off received her bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University. She also earned a Bible College degree from Faith Bible Institute.

The top-rated author also studied a writing course from the Institute of Children’s Literature.

Her tenure at the institute has made her a mentee of writers Patricia Calvert and Teri Martini in her book Acid and Bribery.

Jeanne also has written a number of articles in The Fence Post. Both she and her husband of fifty-nine years grew up in Western Colorado cattle ranches.
